Gunshots from NAM1’s house target angry Menzgolders
Some aggrieved customers of the defunct gold dealership firm Menzgold Ghana Limited, have said three gunshots were fired at them from the East Legon residence of the troubled firm’s CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), on Wednesday, 8 January 2020.
Over 200 irate customers of the company from Accra, Tarkwa and Kumasi had massed up at NAM1’s house to demand their locked-up funds when the gunshots were fired.
Speaking on Class91.3FM’s 505 news programme later in the evening, Mahamudu Salifu, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the aggrieved customers’ group, said: “About three gunshots came from the house toward us without any provocation.
“We have not done anything wrong that warrants us to be threatened. We came peacefully demanding Nana Appiah Mensah today. We came without ammunition. We have written about four letters and he has refused to respond.”
The crowd was dispersed by police officers from the East Legon Police station.
The East Legon Police Commander, DSP Kwesi Ofori, said the customers failed to notify the police of their action.
“We have the Public Order Act, Act 491, which mandates every citizen to inform the police of any intention to picket, but in this case, the police have not been informed, so, we are here to maintain police authority and allow the rule of law to work.”
