John Dumelo engages Mexican Ambassador on strengthening agricultural cooperation
The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr John Dumelo, on Tuesday held a productive meeting with the Mexican Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Norma Ang Sánchez, at his office in Accra to explore areas of mutual cooperation in the agricultural sector.
The discussions focused on enhancing agricultural collaboration between Ghana and Mexico, with both parties expressing optimism about the potential for knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and trade partnerships that could benefit farmers and agribusinesses in both countries.
Mr. Dumelo commended Mexico for its advancements in agricultural innovation and sustainable farming practices, noting that Ghana is eager to learn from Mexico’s success stories, particularly in the cultivation and processing of key crops such as maize, avocado, and cocoa-related products.
“We had a very fruitful discussion on how Ghana and Mexico can collaborate in areas of agricultural technology, research, and value addition,” Dumelo said.
“This partnership has the potential to yield meaningful outcomes for both our nations.”
The Deputy Minister also shared Ghana’s ongoing efforts to modernise its agriculture through mechanisation, youth involvement, and export diversification under the government’s Food Systems Transformation Agenda.
In a lighter moment, the two also discussed the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Mr. Dumelo noted with excitement that many Ghanaian football fans are already looking forward to visiting Mexico for the tournament.
Ambassador Sánchez expressed her country’s readiness to strengthen bilateral relations, emphasising Mexico’s commitment to supporting Ghana in areas of agricultural development, education, and cultural exchange.
