The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reiterated his unwavering commitment to eradicating illegal mining activities across Ghana.
Describing the destructive impact of illegal mining as "environmental terrorism," the Minister stressed that the continued degradation of natural resources, particularly water bodies, poses a severe threat to the nation.
We won't tolerate illegal mining because of its devastating impact on the communities -Lands Minister warns
Speaking at the inauguration of the Association of China-Ghana Mining (ACGM) LBG, Mr. Buah vowed to escalate the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, with a policy of zero tolerance.
He emphasized that the crackdown would be impartial and relentless, regardless of the nationality, political affiliation, or business interests of those involved.
The Minister’s remarks come amid heightened concerns over the environmental damage caused by illegal mining, which has led to widespread pollution of rivers and other water sources.
In his address, the Chairman of ACGM, Tang ZhenJiang, pledged the Association’s commitment to promoting responsible mining practices in Ghana.
He assured the government and the youth that ACGM would focus on technological innovation and community-driven development to ensure sustainable mining practices.
According to him, the inauguration of ACGM marks a significant step towards fostering collaboration between Ghanaian and Chinese stakeholders in the mining sector, with a focus on adhering to environmental standards and promoting sustainable practices.
