Lois Koranteng died of asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema and drowning – Police

The Ghana Police Service has provided updates on the investigation into the tragic death of Lois Abena Koranteng, a 24-year-old Petroleum Engineering graduate from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who was found dead in a hotel swimming pool in Takoradi during a business trip with her boss.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 11 July 2024, the police revealed that an autopsy, conducted in the presence of the deceased’s parents, determined the cause of death as "asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema, and drowning" in the pool.
The police began their investigation on Saturday, 8 June 2024, the same day they received the complaint about the incident. “On the same day, police commenced investigation into the incident,” the statement revealed.
The Police team visited the scene and also visited the hospital and inspected the body but no marks of assault were found on her.
Following dissatisfaction from Ms. Koranteng’s family regarding the extent of police engagement, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare personally apologised via a phone call.
The IGP assured the family of a visit at their convenience to provide updates on the investigation’s progress.
The tragic incident occurred during a business trip to the Western Region, where Ms. Koranteng was accompanied by her boss and their driver.
They checked into a hotel on the night of Friday, 7 June 2024.
The next morning, hotel staff discovered Ms. Koranteng's body floating in the pool, wearing only her bra and panties.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival.
