On Monday, April 1, 2024, Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah, Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, organized a party for children in the Apenkwa electoral area.
The event aimed to discourage children from visiting beaches and other public places during the festive season, where they might come into contact with social vices.
Scores of school children from Apenkwa, Abeka, Lapaz, Botwe, and Tesano, among others, were treated to food, assorted drinks, and popcorn at the event.
Activities included musical chairs, dance competitions, music and dance showcases, and a spelling bee.
Mr. Eric Nii Ashie, the Constituency Chairman for the governing New Patriotic Pary(NPP) spoke on behalf of the MP, emphasizing that the gathering aimed to assist parents in keeping their children engaged and away from potentially harmful environments.
He highlighted the importance of such programmes in motivating children to socialize and learn, especially during festive seasons when visits to beaches are common concerns for parents.
Mr. Ashie commended the MP for initiating the event, noting that it not only contained the pupils but also introduced them to the MP's work and provided an opportunity for them to know their representative better.
Mr Enoch Owusu Okyere, the Assemblyman for Apenkwa Electoral Area, expressed gratitude to the MP for organizing the programme.
He praised its effectiveness in keeping children, especially the more rebellious ones, at home during the festive season.
Mr Okyere urged the MP to continue supporting pupils in the constituency.
