Mahama's second-coming marked by resilience and foresight, says cultural theorist
An emerging Ghanaian cultural theorist and financier has commended President John Mahama's performance during the third quarter of his time in office, describing it as a period of strategic progress for Ghana.
V.L.K. Djokoto told Accra-based Class 91.3 FM that the period represented a significant moment in Ghana's development, highlighting improvements in infrastructure, energy and institutional reform.
“President Mahama's second coming has been marked by resilience and foresight,” Mr Djokoto said during the interview. “It is an where leadership has met responsibility, with an emphasis on laying foundations for inclusive growth.”
Mr Djokoto heads D. K. T. Djokoto & Co, one of Ghana's oldest multi-family offices, which was established in 1950. Beyond his work in finance, he is known as a gallerist and advocate for Ghana's creative economy. He has consistently argued that effective leadership should be assessed not only through economic and political measures, but also by how it supports cultural expression and national identity.
Through art exhibitions and cultural programmes, Mr Djokoto has worked to promote Ghanaian art, music and literature as instruments of national development.
Mr Djokoto's comments reflect a broader trend of increased political engagement among Ghana's cultural and intellectual communities.
His forthcoming book, Revolution, is expected to examine the intersection of politics, philosophy and African creative traditions, offering perspectives on governance and cultural confidence. Analysts say such voices are becoming increasingly prominent in Ghana's public discourse, as cultural figures seek to influence debates about the country's future direction.
