Easter: Methodist bishop calls for reflection, peace
Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, has urged Ghanaians to utilize the Easter season as a time for deep reflection and a renewed commitment to peace.
Delivering an Easter message from the Wesley Towers in Accra, the Presiding Bishop emphasized the significance of Easter within the context of spiritual renewal and national introspection.
He underscored the message of hope inherent in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, urging individuals, churches, communities, institutions, and the nation to reflect on the transformative power of this event.
Drawing parallels between the Easter story and contemporary challenges, Most Rev Dr. Boafo highlighted the prevalence of gloom and suffering; violence, death, and moral decadence.
He stressed the need for Ghanaian society to confront corruption, political polarisation, and moral degradation, which undermine the nation's growth and development.
The Presiding Bishop emphasized Easter as a time of renewal, urging Ghanaians to embrace the opportunity for positive change in mindset and behaviour.
He invoked the symbolism of Christ's resurrection as a beacon of hope, reminding citizens that every ending carries the potential for new beginnings.
Addressing the upcoming general elections in December 2024, Most Rev Dr. Boafo called for a commitment to peace and unity among all stakeholders.
He urged electoral bodies, security personnel, political parties, independent candidates, and the media to uphold fairness, impartiality, and civility throughout the electoral process.
In particular, he emphasized the role of the Electoral Commission as a neutral arbiter, the professionalism of security forces, and the responsible conduct of political actors in fostering a peaceful electoral environment.
As Ghanaians celebrate Easter, Most Rev Dr Boafo extended warm wishes for a joyous holiday season, echoing the timeless proclamation, "Christ is Risen – He is Risen indeed, Alleluia."
The message from the Presiding Bishop serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring significance of Easter and the imperative for collective action towards peace, renewal, and national prosperity
