NPP to present Napo to Asantehene on Tuesday
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has hinted that after the National Council has endorsed Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate for the upcoming elections.
Dr. Prempeh will be presented to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, before his official unveiling at a large gathering in the Ashanti Region.
The NPP stated that presenting Dr. Prempeh also known as Napo to the Asantehene is a gesture to inform the Asanteman Council that one of their own has been chosen as the running mate to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.
This visit is also to seek the chief’s blessings for his grandson’s new political role, as part of the party's efforts to break the eight-year political cycle.
Sammy Awuku, the Senior Campaign Advisor to the flagbearer and NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Akwapim North Constituency in the Eastern Region, emphasized that Dr. Prempeh, currently the Minister for Energy, brings extensive experience in public service and politics.
Mr Awuku noted that both Dr. Prempeh and the National Democratic Congress’ running mate, Prof. Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang, have served as Ministers of Education, making the upcoming contest particularly intriguing.
Mr Awuku highlighted Dr. Prempeh's political acumen and expressed confidence that he would garner strong support to assist Dr. Bawumia in their bid to break the eight-year political jinx.
He shared these insights during an interview on Accra-based Citi FM, following the National Council's overwhelming endorsement of Dr. Prempeh’s candidature
