Nkoranza mayhem: IGP commiserates with bereaved families
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has visited the families of Albert Donkor, who was shot and killed by the police on suspicion of robbery, as well as the families of a man who died subsequently, also at the hand of the police, during protests to demand justice for Mr DOnkor at Nkoranza.
Mr Donkor, 27, was killed after he was picked up from his house by the police in an anti-robbery operation.
The chaos that followed led to the death of one person and injury of six others.
The IGP and his team visited the families to commiserate with them on Wednesday, 26 May 2022.
He assured the families of the deceased that the circumstances surrounding their deaths will be thoroughly investigated.
The IGP and his team also visited victims of the attack, who were on admission at the St Theresa’s hospital, Nkoranza.
He also visited the acting Ankobeahene of Nkoranza and the queen-mother.
He later called on the chiefs and Imams at the Nkoranza Zongo and held a meeting with the Nkoranza youth association.
The IGP urged the youth of the area, to eschew violence and not resort to it, as a means of registering their concerns with the Police.
Together with his team, the IGP walked through some streets of the community as a way of building trust among residents.
He also joined the team on night patrol duty around the community.
