Otumfuo@20: Royal dinner to air live on DStv & GOtv
The royal dinner will be aired exclusively on DStv and GOtv across Africa.
Announcing the broadcast arrangement on Thursday, 2 May 2019, the Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, Cecil Sunkwa Mills, congratulated Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the landmark feat and wished him long life, health and grace.
Mr. Mills also expressed MultiChoice’s excitement at carrying the event live, describing it as interesting content for the Ghana Events channel on both Dstv and Gotv.
“We are excited to be able to bring this historic event live into the homes of our customers across Africa on DStv and GOtv. The rich culture of the Asante Empire will make interesting content for the Ghana Events channel on DStv and GOtv.”
He also stated that the Ghana Events channel “is positioned to showcase the rich Ghanaian culture, arts and music”, adding that “the exposure achieved by such events is expected not only to satisfy the tastes of our Ghanaian customers but to heighten the attractiveness of Ghana as a worthy tourist destination on the continent”.
The Executive Ball, which will be held at the Manhyia palace, is expected to host the crème de la crème of Ghanaian royalty, members of the diplomatic corps, legislature, executive, judiciary, business leaders and a cross section of the Ghanaian public on Friday, from 7 p.m. and will air live on DStv Channel 196 and on the GOtv Channel 129 and will be repeated on Monday, 6 May.
Thousands of Ghanaians and foreigners thronged the capital of the Ashanti Region, Kumasi, to mark the 20th-anniversary of the installation of the Asantehene, as he simultaneously celebrated the ‘Akwasidaekese’ festival, which is marked every five years.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was enthroned on the Golden Stool as the 16th Asantehene on 26 April 1999.
The three-month-long anniversary celebration will end on 12 May 2019 with a golf competition at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi.
