Parliament’s energy committee orders ECG to publish dumsor timetable

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy has instructed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to release a load-shedding timetable to assist citizens in organising their activities amid ongoing power cuts.
This decision follows weeks of heightened power outages, prompting demands for transparency and improved management of the energy crisis.
Previously, Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, expressed frustration at calls for a schedule, suggesting that those interested should create their own.
However, the Mines and Energy Committee has intervened, stressing the importance of providing a load management timetable. During a meeting with stakeholders in the power industry on Sunday, April 7, ECG acknowledged challenges in power distribution.
Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, Chairman of the Energy Committee of Parliament, stressed the need for transparency and effective planning, affirming the committee's commitment to closely monitoring the timetable's implementation.
He said: “The conversations we’ve had so far are very good, some of the technical challenges relating to fuel and the rest of it may be tackled", adding: "If there’s under generation, which there’s an admission there’s one, we should do everything in our power to make sure that we generate enough power.”
He noted: “I think the Committee was very strong on the matter that if there are power outages, those who are enjoying should know when it’ll be available, and then they plan their lives around the timetable they’ll furnish them.”
“They are going to do it and we’ll do everything in our power to monitor them.”
