Police gives Kantamanto fire victims food, water, psyco-social support
The Ghana Police Service has said it refreshed the Kantamanto fire victims with food and water; and also handed them over to psychologists for psyco-social support.
The fire swept through the market on Tuesday, 29 November 2022.
In an update on the incident, the police said firefighters were able to successfully put out the blaze on the same day.
The police said it provided the firefighters with security and operational support.
It noted that as part of ongoing investigation processes, owners of the affected shops were conveyed to the Accra Regional Police Headquarters where relevant details were taken from them.
Also, clinical psychologists provided psycho-social support to the victims.
The police said in line with disaster management practice in the country, the victims were thereafter handed over to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
There were no fatalities and the cause of the fire is not yet known, the police added.
Meanwhile, the police and the firefighters are collaborating to continue investigations into the incident.
"We would like to commend the police, the National Fire Service and NADMO for the coordinated efforts in the management of the incident," the police statement noted.
It added: "We are grateful to the Minister for the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery, for taking time to visit the scene to encourage the personnel and also commiserate with the affected traders."
