Reshaping of Abirem-Kade road underway, residents demand full asphalting

The Abirem-Kade Road in the Eastern Region is undergoing reshaping as part of efforts to improve accessibility and transportation in the area.
However, while residents have welcomed the intervention, they are calling for a more permanent solution — the complete asphalting of the road.
The road, which has long been in a deplorable state, has posed serious challenges for drivers, commuters, and especially farmers, who rely on it to transport their produce.
Its poor condition has hampered economic activities and led to frequent vehicle breakdowns and delays.
The ongoing reshaping works have been initiated under the directive of the District Chief Executive for Birim North, Antwi Hakeem Abdul, who said the move was to make the road more motorable in the interim.
Speaking to the media, the DCE revealed that the road had previously been awarded on contract, but the project was abandoned midway, leaving it in a worse state.
He acknowledged the residents’ concerns and joined calls for the central government to allocate funds for asphalting the road.
“The reshaping is a temporary measure. What we truly need is full asphalting to bring lasting relief to our people,” he said.
Residents expressed appreciation for the current works but stressed that only an asphalted road would resolve the long-standing transportation difficulties and unlock the area’s full economic potential.
They are appealing to the government to prioritise the project in its infrastructure agenda, highlighting its importance for agriculture, trade, and overall development in the region.
