Return to work tomorrow – JUSAG leadership tells staff

General News
JUSAG’s strike began on Monday

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has called off its strike and instructed all members to resume work on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

The decision follows Organised Labour’s announcement that it is suspending its nationwide industrial action.

JUSAG’s strike began on Monday, 15 July 2024, in response to the NPRA’s approval for SSNIT to sell a 60% stake in four hotels to Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City Hotel.

This deal was initially halted but later cleared by the NPRA, prompting a strong reaction from Organised Labour.

Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), voiced his concern: “We do not understand why the NPRA would allow SSNIT to proceed with the deal without further engagement after it initially ordered SSNIT to halt the procedure.”

Following SSNIT’s cancellation of the hotel sale and a subsequent emergency meeting, JUSAG’s National President Samuel Afotey Otu confirmed the end of the strike.

“Having had our demands met by the Board of SSNIT, Organised Labour decided to call off the ongoing strike. ALL workers are, therefore, directed to report to work tomorrow,” Mr. Otu announced.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has also suspended its strike action. Dr. Frank Serebour and Dr. Richard Selormey stated: “NEC, in light of this decision, suspends with immediate effect the earlier issued roadmap for industrial action and directs that all members return to post. NEC is grateful to members for your support.”
