A 60-year-old farmer from Gando in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region, Yikatey Somatey, is in the grips of the police for allegedly butchering his wife, whose name has been given as Bora Bonbiatey, 57.

The suspect, according to regional correspondent Zion Abdul-Rauf, lured his now-deceased wife into the bush under the guise of the need to perform some family rituals but ended up pouring a pepper solution into her eyes before inflicting multiple machete wounds on her with until she died.

The body of deceased was later found in the bush leading to the arrest of the suspect by the police.

Speaking to the media, the district police commander for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, ASP Degraft Armah Adjei, said the alleged homicide was reported to the police by an uncle of the deceased leading to the suspect’s arrest.

ASP Adjei said the police later found the deceased in a pool of blood with multiple cuts on her head and the right eye at the crime scene.

The body of the deceased has been handed over to the family for burial after the Sawla Polyclinic confirmed her dead.

Meanwhile, the Bole Magistrate Court presided over by His Worship Andrews Cudjoe has charged the suspect with murder and remanded him into prison custody.
