Tema: Police arrest 9 women, 96 men for flouting directive on wearing of nose mask
The Tema Regional Police Command on Wednesday, 20 January, 2020, arrested 105 persons for flouting the President’s directive on the wearing of nose masks as part of measures to curb further spread of COVID-19.
They were arrested while going about their daily activities in a 4-hour operation carried out by the Police around Tema Community One.
The operation was carried out to ensure strict compliance with the President’s directive.
The arrested persons include 9 women and 96 men and are aged 17 to 64 years.
83 persons were arrested without their nose masks on but had the masks in their possession.
22 of them however did not have a nose mask at all.
Some of the suspects phoned their relatives and friends to bring them nose masks while in custody.
The suspects would be screened after which further action will be taken against them.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 22nd update on measures taken by his government to prevent further spread of COVID-19, directed the Inspector General of Police(IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh, to ensure strict adherence to the wearing of nose masks by all persons across the country.
The police have since begun ensuring that persons comply with the President’s directive.
