Three illegal miners die after infiltrating inactive underground section of Heath Goldfields’ Prestea Mine
Heath Goldfields Limited has confirmed the deaths of three illegal miners who were trapped after entering an inactive section of its underground operations on the Prestea concession in the Western Region.
In a statement, the company said preliminary findings show the individuals gained entry through unauthorised routes to a restricted portion of the mine, resulting in the tragic incident.
Heath Goldfields extended its condolences to the bereaved families and the wider Prestea community, describing the loss of life as painful and deeply regrettable.
The company noted that it is fully cooperating with the Ghana Police Service, the Minerals Commission, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) as investigations and recovery efforts continue.
Management, in a statement dated November 19, 2025, commended the swift and professional response of the authorities involved.
Reaffirming its commitment to safety, Heath Goldfields said it continues to enforce stringent security and safety protocols across its concessions to prevent illegal entry and protect human life.
The company assured traditional authorities, community members, regulators, and partners of its dedication to responsible mining, community engagement, and the protection of livelihoods.
Its community relations team is currently liaising with local leaders to support affected families and provide updates.
