Top clergy endorses Mahama’s National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving

In a powerful display of spiritual unity, two of Ghana’s most prominent religious leaders have endorsed the upcoming National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving (NDPT), a bold initiative by President John Dramani Mahama aimed at promoting national unity, peace, and spiritual renewal.
Rev. Dr. Steve Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, and Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, General Overseer of Action Chapel International, welcomed members of the NDPT Planning Committee in separate high-level engagements that underscored the country's deep faith and interfaith cooperation.
Rev. Wengam lauded President Mahama for fulfilling a divine vow and emphasised the critical role of prayer in safeguarding Ghana’s peace, especially during politically sensitive times.
He encouraged organisers to focus on earnest prayer rather than long speeches, and pledged full participation from all Assemblies of God branches across the country.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams described the NDPT as a “national demonstration of gratitude to God,” likening it to the historic Thanksgiving traditions in the United States.
He highlighted Ghana’s exemplary Christian-Muslim coexistence and stressed the need for the nation to remain spiritually anchored.
Both religious leaders commended the Planning Committee for its vision and commitment, assured them of institutional support, and urged all Ghanaians to embrace the NDPT as a spiritual and moral foundation for the nation’s future.
