The Executive Director of VIP Transport Services, Yaw Amponsah Marfo, has raised alarm over the worsening condition of the Accra-Kumasi road, particularly the Nsawam section, calling it a major threat to the transport sector and national development.

Speaking to journalists, Mr. Marfo expressed frustration at the stalled road works and government inaction, warning that the poor road network is not only crippling operations but also eroding revenue that could contribute to Ghana’s economic growth.

“Our roads are in terrible shape — especially the Accra to Kumasi stretch,” he said.

“The Nsawam section, which previously showed signs of progress, has been completely abandoned.

What used to be a four-hour journey now takes up to eight hours.

It’s unacceptable.”

He explained that the delay in travel times, rising maintenance costs, and the general wear and tear on vehicles are threatening the sustainability of transport operations, placing a financial burden on both operators and commuters.

Mr. Marfo also expressed disappointment in the lack of response from road authorities and government agencies despite several appeals.

“We have written, we have called, but little has been done.

Transport businesses are suffering, and it’s getting harder for us to support our families,” he added.

Calling on the media, policymakers, and relevant institutions to amplify the issue and demand accountability, Mr. Marfo stressed the need for immediate intervention to rehabilitate the road network and safeguard the transport industry.

He concluded with a passionate plea: “This is not just about VIP. This is about every Ghanaian who uses this road. The situation is dire and unsustainable. We need urgent action now.”
