Voltarians home and abroad donate to COVID-19 fight
Some indigenes of the Volta Region across the country and in the diaspora, through a non-profit organisation, One Volta Group, have donated some Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth thousands of Ghana cedis to support frontline health workers in the fight against COVID-19 across the region.
The items include 9,000 pieces of face masks, thousands of disposable hand gloves, hundreds of gallons of locally-produced hand sanitiser and liquid soap.
The items were presented to the Volta Regional Minister Dr Archibald Yao Letsa and the Volta Regional Health Directorate on Monday, 22 June 2020, and are to be distributed among the eighteen municipalities and districts in the region.
Speaking at a brief donation ceremony held at the office of the Regional Minister, Executive Director of One Volta Group, Togbe Hotormato Amedzake III of Abutia Kpota said that Voltarians, home and abroad, under the umbrella of One Volta Group, have seen the need to support frontline health workers across the various health facilities in the region due to the increasing number of positive cases.
He revealed that an amount of money has been donated to the National COVID-19 Trust Fund and the organisation will always be available to support the region in the fight against the pandemic, especially health workers.
For his part, the Deputy Volta Regional Health Director, Dr Kwesi Dzokoto thanked the organisation for the gesture and noted that the items will go a long way to enhance the work of the frontline workers at the various facilities.
