The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has said it knows the whereabouts of the Takoradi kidnapped girls.

"We know where the girls are", the Director-General of the CID, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah told journalists at a press conference on Tuesday, 2 April 2019, and urged the families of the three girls to "keep on keeping on".

"It's taken us over three months to even identify where the ladies are, and what we don't want to do is do anything that will jeopardise the safety of that. So we are working very hard. Al the stakeholders are supposed to be on board are on board and hopefully, the girls will be brought back safe and sound", she added.

The families of the three kidnapped girls in December threatened to sue the Ghana Police Service over the delay in finding the victims and also picket the Jubilee House.

The missing girls are 18-year-old Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, last seen on 21 December 2018; 21-year-old Priscilla Blessing Bentum, last seen on 17 August 2018; and 18-year-old Ruth Love Quayson, last seen on 4 December 2018.

The man suspected to be behind the kidnappings, Samuel Udoetuk-Wills, who broke cell and escaped from the custody of the Takoradi Metropolitan Police Command on 30 December 2018, was re-arrested by the police.

Udoetuk-Wills was recaptured in the wee hours of Friday, 4 January 2019, by three policemen in an abandoned building in the bush at Kansawurodu, near Takoradi.

He is a Nigerian and has been arraigned.

The spokesperson for the families, Michael Grant Hayford, told Accra-based Citi FM on Tuesday, 12 March 2019 that: “We have raised several concerns forwarded to the commander in charge of the police station that the kidnapper just escaped from there, now we’re suspecting some of the police people.

“We want to take some of the police people that are involved in this issue to court. As it stands, some ladies have been kidnapped, they have arrested one suspect and they are dealing with estate issues that will not bring any benefit, too.

“But we the people in Takoradi are saying that we’re coming to the president direct, we’re coming to the Flagstaff house. I don’t know whether it will be teargas, I don’t know whether it’s going to happen there but we’re coming in a peaceful war to come and present our petition to the president coming Friday.

“We want to come at an unknown time that at the end of the day, the police people will not be aware.”

Fifteen suspects were arrested by the Eastern Regional Police Command about two months ago in connection with the kidnappings.

The arrests were made in a swoop at Nuaso in Odumase in collaboration with the Takoradi Police.

The 15 suspects, whose identities are yet to be known, were sent to the Police Headquarters in Accra for questioning.

The police say Willis spearheaded the kidnappings of the three ladies who went missing between 17 August 2018 and early this year.

The swoop was initiated by police officers in the Western Region.
