A/R: Police to arraign Afia Kobi Nursing Training College principal

Health News
The Principal is currently in the custody of the police and would soon be arraigned

The Principal of the Afia Kobi Nursing Training College in the Old Tafo Municipality of the Ashanti Region, Mr Samuel Owusu King, who was arrested by the police for allegedly failing to register final-year students of the school, will soon be arraigned, the police has said.

The Ashanti regional police command arrested the principal for allegedly failing to register the final students of the school and rather giving them fake National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) examination papers to sit as their final exams.

Mr Owusu was arrested on Tuesday, 10 December 2019 after the students lodged a complaint with the police.

The health students demonstrated against the principal on Monday after they found out that the examination they sat for, was not from the NVTI, which has been mandated to set their exams.

The aggrieved students told Kumasi FM's Elisha Adarkwah that they started their final exams on Monday, which was supposed to have been set by the NVTI.

They said their first paper, Anatomy Drawing, had November/December 2017 as its date but they did not take it seriously since they thought it was a printing error on the part of the NVTI.

The students also indicated that today's paper, which was Trade Theory, also had May/June 2015 as its date. This raised suspicions about the authenticity of the examination papers.

The students said they stopped sitting the exam and proceeded to the office of the NVTI to verify the authenticity of the examination papers.

It was there that officials of NVTI told the students that their school was not on their registration list for the exams.

Unhappy with the situation, the students lodged a complaint with Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and also appealed to the government to intervene in the matter.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti regional police command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, told Kumasi FM's Elisha Adarkwah that the principal allegedly collected GHS750 from each student as registration fee for the NVTI certificate examination but never registered them.

He revealed that the suspect is currently in the custody of the police and would soon be arraigned.
