The Ministry of Health has disclosed that it has encountered 15 suspected cases of the Coronavirus in the country as of Wednesday, 12 February 2020 but all have tested negative.

“Samples have been taken from all of them and sent to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research for tests and the results have been negative. Key stakeholder engagements have been extensive and we have met all regional directors of health services, chief executive officers of the teaching hospitals, and reviewed their preparedness for emergency response following our alert to them; and the ministry is satisfied with preparations made across the regions so far,” the MoH said in a statement to provide update in respect of the development of the Coronavirus infection.

The ministry has assured Ghanaians that its preparations, in terms of emergency preparedness response and surveillance, have been heightened and proven to be effective and efficient.

According to the ministry, disease surveillance within the country and at the points of entry has been heightened, as they work in collaboration with the Ghana Immigration Service and other port authorities.

The statement further added that the ministry’s prevention and control mechanisms cut across strengthening surveillance internally and at the points of entry, as well as case management, risk communication and social mobilization; coordination, laboratory testing and logistics support.

So far, some 1,016 people have been confirmed dead with 60,000 people infected.

At least, 25 countries have confirmed cases and several nations have evacuated their citizens from Hubei, China.
