The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has donated medical supplies and personal protective equipment worth over $400,000 to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to aid health officials in the fight against COVID-19.

The donation was facilitated by Ghana’s Mission in China, which solicited support from both the Chinese state and private sector companies.

The items include ventilators, KN95 and surgical nose masks, goggles, surgical gloves, isolation gowns, medical shoe covers, gun thermometers disinfectants and wipes.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to officially present the items at the forecourt of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on Friday, 15 May 2020, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Charles Owuredu noted that the Ghanaian Embassy in China’s laudable initiative to facilitate the speedy arrival of these much-needed medical supplies “will, no doubt, go a long way to augment the efforts of the government to fight this pandemic”.

He added that “the Ministry, and for that matter, the government of Ghana, is sincerely grateful to all the Chinese companies that contributed to this donation. We are particularly grateful to Tianyun Manganese, the parent company of Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) for generously donating more than half of these medical supplies on display here today”.

The minister also urged Ghanaians not to lose sight of the need to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 safety protocols of enhanced hygiene, social distancing, wearing of face masks, among others, that have been put in place by our health professionals.
