GARH probes death of Dr Kuto’s wife
The Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (GARH) has commenced investigations into events leading to the death of the wife of the head of the Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL) Dr Emmanuel Kuto.
According to Dr Kuto, his wife died at the GARH after she had been given a wrong prescription by a doctor while she was on admission at the hospital.
Dr Kuto recalled that he heard the conversation between a doctor rebuking his colleague doctor over the phone for prescribing the wrong medication.
In a Facebook post, the GIL boss wrote: “From the conversation, it was clear that the other doctor had promptly admitted to prescribing the drug. Folks, I swear by my father’s grave that my wife’s doctor said something like this; ‘I can’t believe you have done this again. This is the second time. This woman’s case is similar to the other one but you have done it again.’”
The post has since gone viral on social media with other people sharing similar stories under the post.
Reacting to the allegation, the GARH in a statement signed by its Medical Director, Emmanuel K Srofenyoh said its “attention has been drawn to a Facebook post making the rounds in the media alleging an unfortunate incident leading to the death of patient in the hospital.
“Management will like to assure the public that with a matter of urgency, an investigation has been instituted into this unfortunate incident in order to establish events leading to the sad situation. The findings of the investigation would be shared with all stakeholders.
The hospital indicated that it “practices an open-door policy and we encourage our clients to report any misgiving or seek clarity on any clinical procedure with the Customer Service or Public Relations Unit for proper management response.”
The hospital also assured the general public that it will: “continue to provide quality health care to the people of this country and beyond.”
The statement added that: “as a tertiary facility, we put the safety of our clients first in all our dealings” and extended their “heartfelt condolences to the husband and family.”
