Hopeworks Ghana, a youth development-focused Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has donated sanitary pads and other hygienic products to over 100 females in Sowada, a deprived community in the Ga South Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.

Hopeworks Ghana spearheaded the project in collaboration with Helphygiene, a US-based NGO to coincide with the 5th anniversary of Hope Week celebrations aimed at promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Hope Week, which started in Kasoa in the Central Region has benefitted about 3,000 needy children from four deprived communities.

According to Mr Patrick Akuffo, President of the organization, “Hopeworks Ghana and Helphygiene partnered to bring this project to the community because it was important to maintain good hygiene during menstruation to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections".

He lamented the use of rags, paper and other inappropriate materials by many women living in such deprived areas to manage their menstrual flow "which does not work very well and can also introduce them to infections”.

Faheemat Mohammed, a member of the team demonstrated the proper use of sanitary towels and educated the recipients on the advantages of ensuring proper hygiene as females before during and after their monthly periods.

Hopeworks Ghana is a Ghana-based NGO committed to empowering disadvantaged youth in deprived communities in rural Ghana with its focus areas on basic education, entrepreneurship, skills education, charity works, job placement, disability and health.
