Hundreds participate in free eye screening by Class Media Group and Hopeful Sight Foundation
Scores of Ghanaians thronged the premises of Class Media Group (CMG) to take part in a free eye screening exercise organized in collaboration with Hopeful Sight Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to eye care and blindness prevention.![]()
CMG, which operates Accra FM, No.1 FM, Class FM, Kumasi FM, Ho FM, Taadi FM, Sunyani FM, Dagbon FM, Classfmonline.com, and CTV, partnered with the foundation to promote eye health awareness and early detection of vision-related conditions, especially Glaucoma.![]()
Speaking on the Ghana Yensom Morning Show on Accra 100.5 FM, Gifty Boatemaa, Director of Communications for Hopeful Sight Foundation, highlighted the organization’s mission to prevent eye diseases and vision loss in Ghana.![]()
According to her, the NGO operates in three key areas:
Education – Raising awareness on proper eye care. Outreach – Conducting free screenings and interventions. Research – Studying eye health trends to improve treatments.She expressed concern about how many Ghanaians neglect their eye health, often seeking medical attention only when conditions worsen.![]()
This, she noted, has contributed to Ghana's ranking second in the world for Glaucoma cases.![]()
Ms. Boatemaa emphasized that individuals over 40 years old are particularly at risk of developing Glaucoma, a disease that can lead to total blindness if not detected early.![]()
She urged the public to prioritize regular eye check-ups, as early diagnosis can significantly reduce the risk of irreversible damage.![]()
"People should not wait until their vision deteriorates before seeking treatment.![]()
Regular eye check-ups can save sight," she advised.![]()
The eye screening exercise is part of the Hopeful Sight Foundation’s broader campaign to promote preventive eye care across Ghana.![]()
