Former President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, 29 November 2021 distributed glucometers to patients at the Diabetes Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra to mark his 63 birthday.

He presented 150 glucometers with strips to the centre.

Speaking at the presentation, Mr Mahama noted that he was hopeful that the glucometers will help patients check and monitor their blood glucose levels at home.

He also advised Ghanaians to adopt healthy lifestyles and increase physical activity.

“As I donate these glucometers, I urge you to adopt healthy lifestyles, increase your physical activity, eat healthy diets and check your weight,” Mr Mahama said.

Mr Mahama, who was accompanied by his wife, Lordina and children was received at the centre by the Chief Executive (CEO) of the Hospital, Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah; Head of the Diabetes Centre, Dr Yacoba Atiase and other senior directors.

The CEO of the Hospital thanked the former president for the gestures noting that diabetes remains one of the silent killers in the country.

He, therefore, urged prominent people like the former president to sensitise the public on the dangers of diabetes.

Head of the Diabetes Centre, Dr Atiase, for his part, commended the former President for the gesture.

Mrs Mahama shared hot meals with the patients and staff at the centre.
