Mustapha Gbande commends Police for ensuring peaceful 2024 polls
The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has praised the leadership of the Ghana Police Service for their role in maintaining a relatively peaceful electoral process during the December 2024 general elections.
Mr Gbande highlighted the proactive approach taken by the police, which he said was instrumental in preventing activities that could have compromised the integrity of the polls.
“The leadership of the police administration deserves commendation for their actions.
They did not allow any rigging activities that could have resulted in chaos,” he stated.
Mr Gbande noted that the vigilance and professionalism exhibited by the security forces ensured attempts to manipulate the electoral process were thwarted, averting any potential violence and safeguarding the will of the people.
According to him, the security agencies’ commitment to upholding democracy reflected their dedication to protecting the interests of the Ghanaian electorate.
He also underscored the measures put in place by the NDC to ensure the sanctity of the electoral process, adding that the party was fully prepared to defend the votes of its supporters.
“The NDC had a robust plan to protect our votes, and we would have stopped at nothing to achieve that,” he affirmed.
Mr Gbande further acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the NDC and other stakeholders in contributing to the smooth conduct of the elections.
He called on all political actors to use this experience as a foundation for enhancing transparency and fairness in future elections.
“It is important that we build on this foundation to strengthen Ghana’s democratic institutions and processes going forward,” he urged.
Mr. Gbande was speaking in an interview with TV3 on Friday, 13 December.
