The Awutu Senya East Municipal Director of the Narcotics Control Commission, Madam Sandra Tetteh, has expressed deep concern over the growing use of synthetic drugs among young people in Kasoa and its surrounding communities.

Speaking during an engagement session, Madam Tetteh described the trend as alarming and called for immediate, coordinated action to combat the issue.

She announced that the Commission will soon roll out a series of initiatives, including the formation of drug-free clubs and targeted educational campaigns within ghettos and zongo communities to raise awareness about the dangers of illicit drug use.

In a broader effort to curb the spread of drug abuse, the Commission also plans to visit pubs, restaurants, and social spaces to educate patrons and encourage community-wide vigilance.

As part of the intervention, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East,  Philis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, presented a donation of GHC 5,000 to support the Commission’s anti-drug programmes.

She also pledged her commitment to working closely with the Commission in the ongoing fight against drug abuse.

Madam Okunnor’s visit to the Commission formed part of her wider efforts to engage stakeholders on protecting Kasoa’s youth—who make up 76% of the local population—from the harmful effects of narcotics. She emphasised that tackling drug abuse is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration between community leaders, security agencies, and residents.

The MP’s office and the Narcotics Control Commission have vowed to continue their partnership to address the crisis, prevent further escalation, and promote a safer, drug-free environment for all in the municipality.
