Noguchi begins ‘Drug Discovery Hub Dev’t in Ghana’ project
The Noguchi Memorial Institute, with funding support from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is implementing a project titled “Supporting a Drug Discovery Hub Development in Ghana”.
The project seeks to train young scientists and technicians towards building a critical mass for drug discovery applications, equip them to compete effectively for international funding for research work in Africa, offer them international exposure, and facilitate their networking and collaboration with other institutions.
A kick-off meeting and workshop for the project was started today, Tuesday, 28 June 2022 with the funders, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other collaborating institutions.
Prof. Dorothy Yeboah-Manu, Director of the Institute indicated that this forms part of the Institute’s continuous commitment to building regional capacity in terms of tool development whether diagnostic, vaccines, or drug discovery.
The partners include; University of Dundee, World Health Organization-Ghana, University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast, University of Health and Applied Sciences, Medicines for Malaria Venture, Drug Discovery and Development Centre, and Centre for Plant Medicine Research.
