North Tongu constituency abolishes medical report fees for victims of sexual offences
The North Tongu Constituency has abolished charges required of victims of sexual offences when they submit police medical forms for a doctor’s report.
This initiative by the office of the Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu means all victims of defilement, rape and other forms of sexual assault in the Constituency, will now be attended to free of charge.
Victims of sexual offences are required to pay between GHS150,000 and GHS400 in order for doctors to fill their Police medical forms.
However, under this initiative by the office of the North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, medical facilities in the constituency will submit to the District Health Directorate, a quarterly report, for prompt payment.
In a Facebook post, North Tongu law maker Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said: “These vulnerable and traumatised victims need our collective support, and the removal of all barriers towards securing justice by successfully prosecuting those demonic perpetrators.”
