Ridge Hospital in critical condition as equipment fails, MahamaCares admin appeals for support
The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares), Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has raised serious concerns over the state of Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), describing the facility as being in a critical condition due to non-functioning equipment.
Speaking on Asempa FM, she said most of the hospital’s equipment is not functioning and urgently needs attention, and appealed to corporate organisations and individuals to support efforts to retool the facility.
She explained that during a visit to the hospital, a doctor briefed her on the challenges facing the facility, which left her worried.
According to her, she later directed one of her officers to return to the hospital to assess the equipment available and identify what was lacking.
She added that the hospital’s medical director subsequently wrote to her officially to inform the fund about the equipment challenges, prompting another visit to determine exactly what was needed.
Madam Darko-Opoku said it is very worrying that the capital regional hospital is faced with such difficulties, especially considering the number of people who depend on the facility for healthcare in the capital city.
Therefore, she appealed to Corporate Ghana to come together and support the retooling of Ridge Hospital, noting that such assistance would be to their credit.
She said corporate institutions that choose to help would do so in partnership with the trust fund, which would take care of the equipment and support with proper management.
She also noted that donors would be allowed to brand equipment in their names, whether as companies or individuals.
According to her, individuals who want to support can contact the fund, assuring that all contributions would be properly accounted for and that donors would see how their support is used.
