The Trust Hospital has lost one of its surgeons to COVID-19

The Trust Hospital in Accra has lost one of its consultant surgeons, Dr Richard Kisser, to the deadly coronavirus.

Dr Kisser died on Thursday, 2 July 2020.

In a notice to the staff, the hospital said: “We regret to inform all staff of the passing of our consultant surgeon Dr Richard Kisser. The sad event occurred on Thursday, the 2nd of July 2020 at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) where he was receiving treatment for COV1D-19 complications.”

Dr Kisser’s death follows the death of other health personnel including the Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeon, Professor Jacob Plunge-Rhule, who reportedly died of the deadly virus at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).

The Medical Director (Paediatrician) at the Kwadaso Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Hospital in the Ashanti Region, Harry Boateng, also died of COVID-19.

This was disclosed by the Ashanti Regional Health Director, Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang at a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday, 17 June 2020.

A total number of 97 health workers made up of doctors, nurses and disease control officers in the region have all contracted the virus.

There are 47 nurses and 18 doctors among them.
