The Coalition of Unemployed Allied Health Professionals (COUAHP) has issued a three-week ultimatum to the government, demanding immediate steps toward their employment or face mass demonstrations.

At a press conference held in Kumasi, the Coalition’s Public Relations Officer, Hussein Abdul Baaki, revealed that over 3,000 members—qualified professionals who completed their National Service and passed their licensure examinations—have remained jobless since 2019.

He lamented the continued neglect of their plight, especially when colleagues in other health sectors have been employed and are progressing in their careers.

According to Baaki, the affected individuals have made multiple attempts to engage the relevant authorities but have yet to receive a satisfactory response.

“We have endured years of hardship and uncertainty,” he said. “We have done everything required of us, and yet we remain unemployed while the healthcare system still faces critical manpower shortages.”

The Coalition is therefore calling on the government to begin the recruitment process immediately.

Should there be no clear action within the three-week window, COUAHP says it will have no option but to hit the streets in protest.

The group emphasised that their demand is not just about job placement but also about ensuring that Ghana’s healthcare system is adequately staffed to deliver essential services across the country.
