World Malaria Day: Test before treatment – GAMLS
The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) is calling for the standardisation of materials needed for quality work in the diagnosis of malaria in health facilities, especially Giemsa Stain, the main reagent for malaria gold standard testing.
GAMLS is also recommending the use of competent malaria microscopists for quality and accurate results during testing for diagnosis.
In a message to mark World Malaria Day today, Monday, 25 April 2022, GAMLS requested that testing for malaria should be done before treating patients to avoid wastage.
As part of measures to prevent malaria, the health workers further encouraged the government and international community to take steps to make the malaria vaccine available to the target population.
This year’s World Malaria Day is marked on the theme: “Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives.”
