15 Eastern Region NPP MPs endorse Bawumia to lead 2028 race

Fifteen Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Eastern Region have thrown their weight behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) preferred candidate to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
The endorsement was made public during Dr. Bawumia’s regional tour, which began with a stop in Nkawkaw.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, the MP for Achiase, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, said the decision followed careful evaluation of Dr. Bawumia’s track record and leadership qualities.
According to the MPs, Dr. Bawumia’s tenure as Vice President has been the most “impactful” in Ghana’s Fourth Republic, making him the party’s strongest candidate to consolidate power in 2028.
They cited his role in shaping economic policy, driving the national digitalisation agenda, and promoting inclusive governance as key reasons for their endorsement.
“We are clear in our minds that Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate to lead us to victory in the 2028 elections.
Politically and policy-wise, he is unmatched.
He has been well marketed over the years, and Ghanaians know what he stands for,” Mr. Marfo stated.
The 15 MPs backing Dr. Bawumia include Ida Adwoa Asiedu (Ayensuano), Korkor Asante (Atiwa West), Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (Ofoase Ayirebi), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam Adoagyiri), Sammi Awuku (Akuapem North), Kofi Okyere Baafi (New Juaben South), Akwasi Acquah (Oda), Kingsley Agyemang (Abuakwa South), Nana Ampaw Addo-Frempong (Abuakwa North), MPs for Fanteakwa North and Fanteakwa South, Frank Asiedu Bekoe (Suhum), Charles Asuako Owiredu (Abirem), and Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo (Achiase).
With this declaration, Dr. Bawumia secures backing from the majority of NPP MPs in the Eastern Region, further strengthening his positioning within the party ahead of the next election cycle.
