2024 polls: NDC will sweep all Zongo votes with Bawumia leading NPP – Sinare

Alhaji Said Sinare, Chairman of the Zongo Working Committee for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has confidently predicted that the party will secure an overwhelming majority of votes in Zongo communities across the country during the December 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on the Citizen’s Show, hosted by Nana Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Alhaji Sinare projected that the NDC will capture 80 to 90 percent of the Zongo votes.
Alhaji Sinare dismissed the influence of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate, within the Zongo communities, questioning his Muslim identity and consistency.
He emphasized that the NDC has maintained a strong bond with the Zongo communities since the era of the party’s founder, the late Jerry John Rawlings, and argued that the NPP’s record of economic mismanagement has left these communities disillusioned.
Alhaji Sinare further claimed that the Zongo communities are seeking tangible development rather than what he described as the NPP’s lip service.
He alleged that the NPP took a group of one hundred Imams to Mecca during the Hajj pilgrimage to pray for its victory in the upcoming elections, but the Imams instead prayed for the NDC’s success.
Highlighting the large turnout at the NDC’s campaign launch in the Northern regional capital Tamale, Alhaji Sinare stated that it was a clear indication of the Zongo communities' continued loyalty to the NDC.
He concluded by asserting that the Zongo communities are now more aware and will not be swayed by the NPP’s tactics as the December 7 elections approach.
