2024 polls a battle between the experienced driver and the mate: Ako Gunn

A Deputy National Communication Officer of the primary opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ako Gunn, has asserted that the stage is set for the 2024 general elections, depicting a showdown between an experienced driver and the mate.
In his analysis, he characterised the race as one between the seasoned driver, NDC's flagbearer and former President John Dramani Mahama, and the driver's mate, who also serves as the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the current Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia.
He positioned Mahama as the seasoned driver, attributing to him a wealth of experience behind the steering wheel, having made decisions that significantly impacted Ghana during his administration.
The Deputy NDC National Communications Officer pointed out Mahama's intervention in the distressed state of local banks, providing bailouts to protect jobs.
In contrast, he painted Bawumia as the inexperienced mate, citing the collapse of local banks under his leadership as head of the Economic Management team, resulting in job losses for many.
The upcoming elections, he emphasised, will present voters with a choice between the seasoned driver and the inexperienced mate, slated for December 7, 2024.
Speaking on the Citizens Show hosted by Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday March 20, 2024, he drew analogies to illustrate his points.
He further criticised the NPP government under Bawumia's leadership, accusing them of deceiving Ghanaians regarding economic management, leading to the country's declaration of a "junk status" and a decline in international business relations.
He highlighted the contrast in the provision of electricity, noting that it was considered a right during Mahama's tenure, even during periods of power outages (dumsor), while under Bawumia, it became a privilege.
The Deputy NDC National Communications Officer expressed optimism that the electorate would make an informed decision on who is better equipped to lead the country forward.
