Asante Mampong NPP clash

A free-for-all brawl broke out on Wednesday, 19 February 2020 in the Ashanti Region between supporters of two of the governing New Patriotic Party’s Asante Mampong parliamentary aspirants who had gone there to submit their nomination forms.

The incumbent MP Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong and a former Member of Parliament, Addai Nimoh, got to the constituency office to file their nomination in the company of hordes of supporters on both sides.

The place was thrown into pandemonium after the party executives rejected the nomination forms of Mr Addai Nimoh while he was still going through the filing processes.

The situation infuriated Mr Addai Nimoh’s supporters who got into an altercation with the executives of the party, whom they suspected were working to frustrate the former presidential aspirant’s legislative ambition in favour of the incumbent.

The constituency became a wrestling arena when the executives as well as supporters of either candidate got into a frenzy and drew clubs and any crude weapon they could lay their hands on for fisticuffs.

At least five people got injured in the melee.
