The Ashanti Regional Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Isham Alhassan, has vehemently denied allegations linking the Ashanti Regional Minister,  Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to illegal mining (galamsey) activities in the region.

Addressing the press on Thursday, Mr. Alhassan described the claims as “baseless, unfounded, and politically motivated,” insisting the Minister has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental protection and responsible mining practices.

He noted that during his absence from the country in recent weeks, the allegations began circulating, but upon his return, he found no merit in the claims.

He highlighted Dr. Amoakohene’s interventions in resolving tensions between Asanko Mining Company Ltd. and local communities in the Amansie South District, as well as his caution to Chinese nationals involved in illegal mining during an official visit to China.

According to Mr. Alhassan, the Minister has played a key role in the reclamation of degraded lands and forest reserves in the Ashanti Region, underscoring his dedication to sustainable development.

He argued that the allegations were attempts to tarnish the Minister’s reputation and undermine his achievements.

Issuing a bold challenge, Mr. Alhassan called on anyone with evidence implicating the Regional Minister in illegal mining to present it.

He further pledged to resign immediately if any such evidence were produced.

He also aimed at critics within the NDC, urging party members to desist from attempts to discredit Dr. Amoakohene based on his age.

Describing the Minister as “a young man with a bright political future,” Mr. Alhassan cautioned against internal sabotage and called for unity and support.

Mr. Alhassan concluded by urging the public to disregard what he termed “propaganda” and remain focused on the government’s broader efforts to promote development and safeguard the environment, assuring that steps would be taken to protect the Minister’s reputation.
