Assin North by-election: NPP elects Charles Opoku as parliamentary candidate

The governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) has elected Charles Opoku as its Parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Assin North by-election slated for 27 June 2023.
Mr Opoku polled 397 to beat Frederick Freeman Amoah-Kyei who secured 136 votes out of 536 total votes cast.
The newly elected NPP candidate will face the NDC’s James Gyakye Quayson in what promises to be keen contest.
Prior to this primary, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Sammy Gyamfi, accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of conniving with the NPP to insert the name of an unqualified NPP parliamentary candidate into the constituency’s voters register.
That person turned out to be Charles Opoku.
The EC, however, denied the allegation of conniving with the NPP to transfer any person’s vote to the constituency.
