The Ghana Police Service has stated that there have been no reported cases of individuals or vehicles being shot at within the Assin North constituency during the by-election.

However, they have acknowledged the occurrence of some isolated incidents, including an alleged incident where an individual fired a gun into the air.

The police have assured the public that they are investigating all recorded incidents and have made arrests, with the suspects currently in custody, assisting with the investigations.

In a statement, they also mentioned that an adequate number of police personnel have been deployed across the constituency to ensure security, maintain law and order, not only during the election but also beyond.

In the by-election, three candidates are competing for the Member of Parliament (MP) position in the Assin North constituency. The candidates are James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).

The previous election held in 2020 was declared null and void by the Supreme Court due to James Gyakye Quayson, the winning candidate from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), holding dual citizenship when he filed his nomination forms.

Consequently, the court instructed Parliament to remove Mr. Quayson's name from its records, resulting in the vacancy of the parliamentary seat.

The Electoral Commission (EC) promptly scheduled the by-election to fill the vacant parliamentary seat for today, Tuesday, June 27.
