Assin North by-polls: Quayson is the right candidate for the job – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has reminded electorate at Assin North to vote for James Gyakye Quayson in today’s by-election.
According to Mr Mahama, Mr Quayson is the right candidate for the job and will work hard to represent the constituency and the interest of the constituents.
“Let us reaffirm our strong support for and belief in James Gyakye Quayson and the NDC for justice and the development of Assin North,” Mr Mahama stated in a statement when he arrived in Accra Monday morning after a successful round of community durbars in various parts of the Assin North constituency and a mini vigil held later at Assin Breku.
“Let us make a bold statement with this election. Ghanaians are tired of Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP. It is time for a new direction and a brighter future for our country. Together, let us make it happen,” he charged the electorate.
Mr Mahama also thanked the chiefs, religious leaders, his party leaders and supporters, and the people of Assin North for their unwavering support and dedication towards the NDC's campaign.
The hard work and commitment that has gone into this by-election campaign, he noted, have not gone unnoticed.
He encouraged the electorate to queue up early to vote and urged them not to let anything deter them from exercising their right to vote.
“Your vote is your voice, and you must make it count,” he added.
Three candidates are competing for the MP position in the by-election. They are: James Gyakye Quayson of the NDC, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
The previous election, held in 2020, was declared null and void by the Supreme Court due to the winning candidate, James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), holding dual citizenship when he filed his nomination forms.
As a result, the court instructed Parliament to remove Mr. Quayson's name from its records.
The Electoral Commission (EC) promptly scheduled the by-election for June 27 to fill the vacant parliamentary seat.
