Awukugua chief urges Parliament to end infighting and protect Ghana’s image
The Abontendomhene of Awukugua in the Eastern Region, Baafour Kumankum Sereko Ayerakwa II, has called on Members of Parliament to put aside their differences and restore unity and decorum in the House.
Speaking to Accra FM/CTV reporter Apelete Kofi Michel during the first anniversary celebration of the Abontendomhemaa of Awukugua, Owoodom Oweredua Kaare III, Baafour Ayerakwa II expressed deep disappointment over the recent altercations and near physical confrontations witnessed in Parliament.
The Chief described the conduct as shameful and unbecoming of leaders, stressing that the ongoing infighting paints Ghana in a bad light before the international community and risks damaging the nation’s reputation.
He emphasised that Members of Parliament, as representatives of the people, must demonstrate the highest levels of discipline, respect and integrity.
Mr Baafour Ayerakwa II urged them to focus on collaboration and consensus-building to advance national development rather than engaging in actions that stall progress.
On her part, the Abontendomhemaa, Owoodom Oweredua Kaare III, appealed to the government and relevant authorities to prioritise development in Awukugua by providing essential social amenities to improve the well-being of residents.
Meanwhile, a 10-year-old girl, Spendilove Kumiwaa, has been installed as the Awukugua Abontendom Ankobeahemaa, with the stool name Afua Kumiwaa.
