Bagbin adjourns parliament indefinitely

Ghana's Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has indefinitely adjourned parliamentary proceedings, citing the absence of a quorum.
The decision came on Tuesday, October 22, following a tense session marked by clashes between members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the composition of the Majority in the House.
Speaker Bagbin briefly mentioned receiving a communication from the Supreme Court but did not provide details.
It is believed to be related to the recent legal battle over the declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant, a ruling that the Supreme Court has temporarily halted.
Earlier, NPP MPs walked out of the Chamber, leaving the NDC to occupy both sides of the House.
The official reason for the adjournment was the lack of a quorum—the minimum number of MPs required to conduct parliamentary business—though political tensions throughout the day also contributed to the disruption.
Bagbin’s decision not to address the Supreme Court's communication leaves the issue of the vacant seats unresolved, adding further uncertainty to the parliamentary situation.
With the indefinite adjournment, it is unclear when proceedings will resume, as both parties await further direction.
