Bawumia is corrupt and dishonest – Mary Awusi

Dr. Mary Awusi, Deputy Director of Interparty Relations and Civil Society Organisations for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and a member of the party’s National Campaign Team, has criticised Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate in the upcoming December 7 election.
In remarks made on Accra 100.5 FM’s The Citizen Show, hosted by Nana Ama Agyarko, Dr. Awusi accused Dr. Bawumia of failing to address the country’s economic challenges and questioned his commitment to stabilising the Cedi.
She claimed that despite Dr. Bawumia’s assurances about currency stabilization, the Cedi has continued to depreciate, now reportedly trading at GHS17 to a U.S. dollar.
Dr. Awusi highlighted that Dr. Bawumia, as head of the Economic Management Team, has shifted his focus toward digitalisation initiatives, launching a series of applications instead of concentrating on economic fundamentals.
In a pointed remark, she suggested that Dr. Bawumia "has not found an app that can arrest the freefall of the Cedi."
Recalling Dr. Bawumia’s own statements in 2016, when he criticised the then-government for a weaker Cedi—then valued at GHS4 to the dollar—Dr. Awusi questioned why the Vice-President had not delivered on his own pledges.
She also expressed concern over Dr. Bawumia’s campaign messaging, accusing him of "continuing to make misleading statements" on the economic state of the country.
She further accused Dr Bawumia of being a corrupt liar.
