COVID-19: Akufo-Addo hasn’t tested positive – Nkrumah

President Nana Akufo-Addo has not tested positive for Coronavirus Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has debunked the rumours.

Updating Ghanaians on the latest reports with respect to the coronavirus outbreak, Mr Nkrumah said: “There are those who even in these trying times take delight in fabricating stories and throwing them out there on social media sometimes for political purposes and sometimes for humour. We would want to discourage that as much as possible. There are stories going around that the President and some ministers have tested positive [for Coronavirus]. You have seen it on social media. It is not true.”

Rumours of the President testing negative became rife when a Norwegian diplomat in Ghana tested positive for COVID-19.

This is because the President, accompanied by some of his Ministers had visited Norway at the time the disease was fast spreading across the globe.

He is believed to have come into contact with the Norwegian diplomat who later tested positive.

Mr Nkrumah advised the media to use their platforms to help educate the public about how to stop the spread of the virus and not propagate falsehood and create panic.

“We will like to encourage that if you have access to a platform, use it to encourage compliance with preventive etiquettes so that we can save as many lives as possible.” he said.

Ghana has recorded seven cases of the coronavirus forcing the government to place a ban on all social gatherings.
