The Member of Parliament for Builsa North, Mr James Agalga, has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to listen to the call made by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to lockdown the country following the upward trend of the coronavirus cases in the country.

Ghana has recoded 136 cases so far.

The GMA, a few days ago, called on Mr Akufo-Addo to immediately lock down the nation to prevent any further spread of the coronavirus.

The call by the GMA came after one more person died of the virus bringing the total number of recorded deaths to three.

The deceased is a wife of a Rear Admiral in the Ghana Armed forces. She died at an isolation centre at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra Wednesday.

In a statement, the GMA said being fully conscious of the threat posed by this pandemic and the disturbing trend of community spread and the obvious inadequate of capacity (logistic and human resource) of the nation’s health system to deal with increased numbers of COVID-19 infection especially in the severe to critical cases, the President must declare a Nationwide Lockdown with the exception of essential services with immediate effect.

Speaking to the press in Accra on Thursday, Mr Aglaga, who isr a former Deputy Minister for the Interior, said given the way the infection is increasing, “the President has to listen to the council and lock down the country.”
