Former President John Dramani Mahama has advised Ghanaians to stay at home if they have nothing important doing in town to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Ghana has recorded 27 cases of the virus with two deaths.

The UK, US, Germany, Italy and many countries in Europe and Asia are currently in some degree of “lockdown,” with restaurants and bars, shops, schools and gyms closed.

The citizens of those countries have been encouraged to stay home with soldiers and police enforcing the lockdown in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Although Ghana has not announced a lockdown, Mr Mahama believes Ghanaians can slow the spread of the virus if they remained at home, as it is being practised elsewhere around the globe.

In a Facebook post, the flag bearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) advised thus: “Let us continue to hold fast to the preventive measures. They are our first line of defence as individuals, and it is a collective responsibility. The preventive measures are currently the only means by which we can slow down the spread of this dreadful coronavirus and provide enough time to mount a robust response”, adding: “Please stay at home if you have nothing important to go out to do.”

As of today, Tuesday, 24 March 2020, 383,900 COVID-19 have been recorded across the world with 16, 586 deaths, according to worldometer.
